Finally, there is a standalone version of the new Java Columns game, without the world wide scoreboard. If you want to play the newest version of Columns without being connected to the internet, click here to download a self-extracting executable named Columns.exe. When you download this file, run it (click on Start, Run, then find the file, wherever you stored it during the download). Be sure to specify your desired directory into which to extract all of the Columns files. After extraction, get in your browser program, and use File, Open to open columns.html in the directory into which you extracted.
